Things that have helped me……
Tip 1 – Move Workouts Outdoors
In North Idaho we get our fair share of snow, rain, sleet, you name it! It makes it very difficult to enjoy the outdoors unless you participate in a Snow Sport of some sort and we are very fortunate to have amazing Ski Mountains nearby with stellar views and cozy lodges. Even if you do not have a Ski Mountain where you live, moving your workouts outdoors will drastically improve your mood. I like to bundle up and go on a run for at least 45 minutes. Within minutes of being outside and breathing in the fresh air, I feel alive! The other positive about this you ask? Shopping for Warm Outdoor Active Wear for the winter months. Who doesn’t like to be fashionable while working out? Wink, Wink.
Tip 2 – Start a new Hobby/Get Crafty
Nothing beats the crappy weather like taking a trip to Michaels, walking through aisles of endless crafts and getting creative. Sometimes when I am bored and need something to occupy my time, I get crafty. It’s so easy you guys. Look up Pinterest Craft Ideas and the possibilities are endless. I personally like to do fun home decor projects to spice up my home during the holidays. Not to mention my daughter loves crafts too! So it’s something you can do with your kids too! If your not the crafty type then take up a new hobby like knitting. Yes I know your judging me but try it and I bet you will be surprised how addicting it is! Guilty as charged!
Tip 3 – Eat a Healthy Diet
With the cold weather comes the need to snack and hibernate. During the Holidays it is not an easy task to stay on the health train. I myself enjoy cooking as well as baking some treats. Pretty soon I feel so guilty that I consumed so many carbs and random treats, I want to hide in a corner. I also find that when my sugar intake is at an all time high and I’m not eating the best I feel sluggish, moody and in a fog. Make sure that even though its a wonderful time to hibernate, put on Netflix and snack to your hearts content, it’s also going to make you feel like crap. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself but a little self control and moderation is key. Have a specific cheat day where you can enjoy the foods you want and then stick to daily exercise of some sort and healthy eating during the week. Your body will thank you as well as your jeans. Mine are a little snug today. YOLO!
Tip 4 – Enjoy Friend Time
Nothing boosts my mood more then a little friend time with my ladies and some Wine! Getting together with friends and laughing is the best medicine of all! Set aside time to get together with some friends and enjoy the company as well as the bliss of doing nothing!
Tip 5 – Plan a Vacay
This one is my favorite. I’m a gypsy at heart. I love to travel and any chance I get to have a little getaway, I take it. This is probably the most important of all to me, because I truly believe that getting out of your daily routine, meeting new people, and seeing new sights feeds the soul! Planning a vacation is something to look forward to. Having a vacation to look forward to is the ultimate mood booster. When I know the winter is coming, I immediately begin to think of our next family vacation. Living in the Northwest we have all Seasons and the cold ones seem to linger so going somewhere warm fills my happy tank as well as the family. Then you can come back refreshed and ready to tackle anything that comes your way. VRBO has some awesome places for an affordable price too!
Tip 6 – Music
I think anyone can agree that Music has the ability to lighten the mood and bring a positive vibe given the right tune. Whether I’m at the gym or at home cooking, playing music always lifts my mood and makes me feel better. Surround yourself with good tunes and good vibes will fill that Winter void. I promise.
Well there you have it! These are things that have helped me. Believe me I still struggle with the Winter months. I just love me some sunshine! But I always try to stay positive and when I am needing a pick me up, these are the things that have helped me. I hope this helped you in some way!
