If I could have the title “Globetrotter” on my resume, my life would be complete. I’ve often daydreamed of traveling the world tasting all the different cuisines every country has to offer. Taking in the sights and visiting places with culture and new faces. Until that day comes I try to travel as often as I can. I find it is like a recharge for my soul. There is something about it I have always craved. Could it be the Free Spirited Gypsy Soul in me? I think so.
I have had the pleasure of traveling to different places and I wanted to share some of my favorite locations. If your itching for the next adventure then keep reading to see my favorite Vacay Destinations. Your heart will thank me.
Nashville
Oh Tennessee – you surprised me. Not only is the town beautiful and clean, but the people are friendly and the Honky Tonk vibe is so appealing! I love me some Country and this city exudes all the country feels your heart desires. Live Music in every bar, and I mean GOOD live music. The kind you can sip a beer to, dance to, or even sing to. I wasn’t able to visit the Grand Ole Opry (a must see) but I will definitely watch a performance there someday. It is very clear the city is buzzing with that music feel and it’s contagious.
The food was amazing as well as the shopping. We went to a yummy breakfast spot in town with amazing Bloody Marys and brunch style food. I’m hungry.
Such a safe and positive feel when I visited and I can’t wait to go back! I always tell my husband I would live there no questions asked.
Cannon Beach
Cannon Beach, Oregon has been a longtime family vacation spot since I can remember. My parents would load us up in the car and drive to our favorite Summer getaway town. Only about a 9 hour drive from our house in Spokane, WA to white sandy beaches and sunny ocean views. Some of the best wind for kite flying and hiking trails for the outdoorsy type. There is something for everyone and a perfect location for a family looking to get away.
The town is small and you can walk around and look in the shops and grab an ice cream cone to enjoy. It’s so quaint and cute and the houses all have the same look and feel. Something out of a home decor magazine. Perfection.
Did I mention night beach fires? Well it’s real… pack some firewood down to the beach and pick a perfect spot. Don’t forget a bottle of wine, Bluetooth speaker (music), and warm clothing with a comfy blanket. Enjoy the sounds of the surf by the fire while you spend quality time with your favorite people.
Priest Lake – Idaho
If you are a lake lover then this is the spot for you. Nestled in the mountains of Idaho is the prettiest most picturesque lake that is hard to even describe. You have to see it for yourself. The water is crystal clear and the beaches are clean. The air has the faint smell of campfire and pine. It is truly a sacred place that everyone who visits falls in love immediately. You have the option to camp in a tent steps away from the water (which is my personal favorite), camper/RV style, and also if you prefer a “Glamping” experience The Elkins Resort is a great place to stay in cute little cabins.
This place holds a special place in my heart simply because my favorite memories as a child were spent at this lake. I have vivid memories of family chats and laughs by the fire at night, smores, walking to the swamp pond, catching frogs at night, sun burns I still remember (ouch) and swimming for hours. Ugh my heart just pitter patters when I think of it!
New Orleans
The city that never sleeps. Seriously. This city is not for the faint of heart. Bourbon Street is full of people from all different walks of life and everyone is there with the same purpose – cheap drinks and free people watching. Oh how could I forget the Fried Chicken! They have the best Southern Food. Although Bourbon Street is what brings most to the city, I had to mention one of my favorite things about the city – Beignets. If you aren’t familiar with this particular treat then I suggest you google it. Better yet, search #beignets on Instagram and prepare to drool. They are known for these delicious fried donuts covered in powdered sugar and people stand in line for hours to get them. Don’t forget a stiff cup of joe to accompany the tasty treat.
My other favorite part of the city was the local Swamp Boat Tours. It was such a cool experience to ride around the swamp and see Gators and wildlife. The business is 3rd Generation and the family has owned the land for many years. To be honest, it was really interesting to hear the history of the swamp lands while riding in these massive boats. It felt a little dangerous and adventurous at the same time. Definitely a Bucket List must!
Cabo Mexico
Steak Nachos. Yep, you heard me. Thats what I think of when I hear MEXICO. Oh and all inclusive drinks. Everyone has to experience Mexico at some point in their lives. The hot sun, Tequila, tan skin, authentic FOOD! Ugh, I’m just dying at the thought of it all! I have been to numerous places in Mexico but I always seem to reflect on Cabo. The vibe is just FUN. Picture this: its a hot day, the sun is out and all you can think of is some nice lunch in the shade with an ice cold bucket of beers. Well I have just the spot for you. Mango Deck. The ultimate Restaurant/Bar for Adults. There are Beer Chugging contests, dancing contests, you name it. And you get to sit back and enjoy the free entertainment with a stiff beverage of your choice. Cabo also has some of the best bars and dance clubs if you want to let loose with your friends and live a little. Arriba!
Southern California
There is nothing like the smell of California. You know that smell when you walk into a vintage store and there is incense burning, feel good music is playing in the background and outside is the faint sound of waves and birds. That is California to me. A steady 75 degrees, sun kissed skin, so many places and things to do and see, and the salty breeze from the ocean.
Malibu is the ultimate for me. The quintessential Bougee California hype. Everyone looks like they are on their own time, no rush or worries, just beach life. The food and shopping?! Yes please. Taking a little drive down Pacific Coast Hwy and daydreaming of owning one of the little beach houses? Um, yes. Oh and you have to go to the Malibu Wine Safari and see Stanley the Giraffe! That’s right – wine and animals. Heaven.
Let’s not forget Santa Barbara and the Mediterranean feel with Stucco houses and upscale boutiques. A nice little getaway with your lover would be divine here. There is no denying how special this town is and gorgeous.
I have to mention San Diego of course. My husband and I love this city. Ride the city scooters around town and along Mission Beach – don’t forget to pop into the little bars on the way. Margaritas duh.
We were blown away when we attended a Padres game and there were sand pits for the kids outside with food trucks and people enjoying the game from the lawn. How cool! Grab a hot dog and beer of course and bam… life is complete.
