It seems like a lifetime ago when my life consisted of diapers, monthly check ups, no sleep and spit up. My daughter is 8 years old now but I can remember it like yesterday. I was a young mother and had no idea the amount of time, patience and love it would take to raise a human. I had quite the wake-up call when she was born. I remember gravitating towards mothers, trying to pick their brain for any tips or helpful information that could make it a little easier. But looking back the one thing no mother ever prepared me for was the difficulty of trying to be a good attentive mother but still keep your sanity and sense of self. When you are a mother, you no longer can be selfish. EVERYTHING you do revolves around your child and whether they are cared for and loved. So in the midst of this daily routine, women sometimes forget the woman they once were. Sweatpants, minimal makeup, occasional shower if your lucky; these are now reality. So how can new moms get their Sexy Back? Keep reading on my tips to help you step into the new role as a MILF.
Do your makeup everyday
I know that it’s sometimes hard to take the time to put our face on. There’s a million other things to be doing so the last thing on your mind is makeup. Ladies this is a mistake. No one wants to see a mom with bags under her eyes and aggressive dark roots. It’s just not a good look. Not to mention, we still want our men to like us. They did put up with our raging hormones for almost a year so we at least owe them something pretty to look at. My advice is simple, take 10 minutes to freshen up and you will not only look beautiful but feel good too.
Moisturize with a BB Cream which will also mask as a foundation. It will help even out your skin tone and will leave tired skin glowing. Dab a little concealer under the eyes to cover the lack of sleep. Add a simple cat eye with a white eye liner on your bottom waterline to make eyes pop and look awake. Use a volumizing Mascara (Loreal’ 24 Hour Volume is my fave) for full lashes. Sweep a little bronzer on the cheeks, temples, top of forehead and jawline. Don’t forget blush on the cheeks and finish with a tinted lip balm. Bam…MILF on the loose!
Visit the Salon
Time for a mommy makeover! Time to re-vamp your look and boost your confidence! Visit the salon and get your hair cut and freshen up that color. Maybe opt for a look you’ve been wanting to try. The point is to feel pretty and get in the routine of taking time for yourself and your appearance. Maybe even get a nice pedicure if you have the time. When your a mom, you begin to appreciate even the littlest things, such as pretty painted toes to make you feel good! I promise, when you leave the salon with a fresh blowout you will feel like a whole new woman!
Organize a girls lunch/dinner
I’m sure every mom can agree with this when I say, It is so nice to speak to an adult after being with a child day after day. You crave social interaction with your girls. You want to discuss the latest gossip or just reminisce to remind yourself your still cool. I love my girlfriends and cannot imagine what I would do without them. I value them most for the laughs and girl talk when I need it most. So dress up, put on heels, do your hair, pop the champs and grab a bite with the ladies at least twice a month. It gives you something to look forward to and also makes you appreciate your lil peanut at home who can’t wait to see you!
This is usually the last thing on our minds after going 9 months in a food coma. For your sanity and for your new found hips and ass, your life depends on it. Put the babes in a stroller and go for a walk in the neighborhood. Or better yet, join a post-baby workout class where you can bring the baby with you. We have offered a post-baby Barre class at Barre Cda where I teach and the moms love it! You get a total body toning workout while holding your baby in a carrier! The moves are also simple to do at home! If you want to get back in those skinny jeans, then begin by being active and incorporate exercise little by little every day. You will have more energy and start to drop the pounds!
Date night with the man
Once upon a time, there was a guy and a girl….that’s old news and now you barely get time alone. BOO! Not only are you new parents but the relationship is no longer about the two of you. You were once cruising in his lifted truck listening to old school rap and now your arguing over who wakes up to grab the baby. Having a child changes the dynamic of your relationship in so many ways so it’s so important to make time for your man. Let’s not forget, he didn’t have to carry the baby for 9 months so technically he wasn’t really able to mentally prepare the way we do. So make time and let him know you appreciate him and your relationship. Go on date nights and keep the spark alive. He is after all your Baby Daddy!
I love being a mom! It is by far the most rewarding blessing in my life and has changed my world for the better. I wouldn’t be the person I am without my daughter. I think any mom can say that. I am also blessed to have a man in my life that is a great father and amazing support when I need it the most!
