A few days ago while organizing my ridiculous makeup collection, I had an idea for my next blog post. First of all I had to remember that not everyone has an insane makeup addiction like myself. Really?! No but seriously there are some ladies out there that are low maintenance and just want the basics in their makeup collection. So I thought I would give my suggestions for those that are lost when it comes to makeup and what they should own. Keep reading to see my Top Favorite Essentials for your makeup bag.
1. Moisturizer – Primer
First and foremost it is so important to have a good hydrating moisturizer that you can apply before your makeup. I recommend one that is hydrating and appropriate for your skin type. Tarte has a fabulous moisturizer called Rainforest of the Sea – Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer that is lightweight and refreshing.
I also included primer in this category. A good primer will smooth out the skin and set the base for a flawless makeup look. There are so many primers out there so my advice is to do your research based on your skin type to ultimately pick one. I have used NYX Angel Veil for a while now because it’s lightweight and I love the velvety finish on my skin. A definite bargain for your buck too!
2. Concealer
This is one of my favorite products in my beauty routine. NO one likes bags under the eyes! There’s nothing like a bright undereye to make us look more awake and fresh. I am obsessed with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer. It has single handedly changed my face! Not only does it tackle dark circles but it covers blemishes too! I swear they disappear! An absolute amazing product and easy to apply with a concealer brush. A little goes a long way so it lasts a long time too.
3. BB Cream
For the low maintenance ladies a good tinted BB cream is awesome if you don’t want a full coverage foundation. Just apply with a beauty blender for a nice glow and a little coverage too. Also a good thing to have for summer days when you still want some coverage but not too much makeup on the face. I don’t currently have a favorite at the moment. I have used Bare Minerals in the past but I’m on the lookout for a new product.
4. Eyelash Curler
It always helps to add a little curl to the lashes. It opens the eyes and elongates the lashes making you look more bright eyed. You can even skip the mascara if for an easy out the door look!
5. Mascara
Who doesn’t love mascara. It’s the one product I would take if I was stranded on an island. There’s just something about a good volumizing mascara to make you look alive! I’m a fan of any mascara really but I’m currently using Diorshadow and I love it. A little tip too – always check the brush design before you buy. This makes a huge difference for application. I always opt for the fat wand with extra bristles. It adds more volume and make lashes look thicker.
6. Neutral Eyeshadow Palette
You can’t go wrong with neutral colors. They go with any eye color and realistically any MUA will tell you they have probably 4 shadows that they use almost everyday. I love the Tartiest Pro Palette by Tarte. Once again they killed it with the formula and colors. They are smooth blending and flake resistant which is a plus for lasting all day, You will find neutral and bold matte tones along with 4 shimmer colors in case your feeling adventurous.
7. Liquid Lipstick
Probably one of the easiest lip products out there. These are long wearing, smudge proof and look beautiful too. Anastasia of Beverly Hills has some of my favorite shades but there are so many good ones out there. I always choose a nude of some sort cause that’s my jam, but its also fun to pick a bright color for the days that you go easy on the makeup but still want to look put together.
8. Bronzer
This isn’t to be mistaken with a finishing powder. Remember back in the day when girls would bronze their whole face! This is definitely not what it should be used for. A nice matte bronzer will add a little shape/contour to the face and give yourself a nice glow. Don’t be intimidated ladies! If you have light skin choose an ashy shade where darker skin should choose a warm shade. It’s important to choose the correct tone for your face so you don’t look orange. Just lightly apply to the forehead/hairline, hollows of the cheeks and along jaw line and neck for a nice glow.
9. Baked Blush
Pick a color that is good for an everyday look. I suggest a pink/rose color. Baked blush has a sheer finish so it’s not too harsh or overbearing. Milani has amazing blushes in beautiful shades and for a good price!
10. Brow Pencil
Of course I saved the best for last. There is nothing better then beautiful brows. It’s such an important part of your makeup routine and really completes the face. I really like the NYX Micro Brow Pencil to fill in the gaps of missing hair. I also love Benefit Ka – Brow Cream Gel. It comes with a built in brush too! It is a great product and easy to use.
So there you have it! Hope this was of some help to you. The list could have gone on and on but I really wanted to give just the essentials for a beautiful face. Thanks so much for reading friends and don’t hesitate to visit my social media for more inspo!
